Chamaemelum Melissa Complex - Nerve Tonic

Ingredients:
Chamaemelum nobile (Roman Chamomile Flowers)
Melissa officinalis (Melissa Herb)
Tilia americana (Linden Flowers)
Pedicularis canadensis (Wood Betony Herb)
Verbena hastata (Blue Vervain Herb)
Nepeta cataria (Catnip Herb)
Crataegus spp. (Hawthorne Berries)

PROPERTIES: This formulation is a relaxing nerve tonic. It strengthens the entire nervous system. The calming effects of these herbs have pronounced restorative properties that are very helpful to compensate for the effects of stress on the sympathetic nervous and circulatory systems. In addition, several of them have secondary liver and digestive stimulating properties. The resulting improvement in assimilation combined with nervine properties makes this an excellent restorative formulation. It can be particularly useful as a tonic during convalescence. This formulation can be helpful for the treatment of conditions such as general stress, nervousness, anxiety, mild depression, insomnia, high blood pressure and stress-related digestive disturbances. The overall effect is both relaxing and uplifting. This formulation can be used throughout the day, as it will not cause drowsiness.

SUGGESTED USE: 15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water, taken on an empty stomach 15-30 minutes before meals and before bed. It can be taken more frequently in cases of acute stress or anxiety.

SUPPORTIVE: For all conditions of the nervous system the most important lifestyle factors that must be addressed concern an individual's overall level of stress. There are many factors that can help reduce the negative effects of stress. They include getting sufficient rest and relaxation, reducing consumption of sugar and stimulants, such as caffeine, and getting more exercise. Some method of stress management such as relaxation exercises, yoga, meditation, tai chi or chi gong is highly recommended to help reduce the impact of stressful situations. In addition, a natural diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains and low in chemical additives will provide the greatest support for the entire body. There are also a number of nutritional supplements that support the health of the nervous system and adrenals. Of greatest importance are the B-complex vitamins, choline, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and zinc. With water soluble vitamins such as vitamin B and C it is better to take lower doses 2 or 3 times per day than to take a large dose, even if it is time-released.

While combining tonics with other herbs may not interfere with their effectiveness, it is best to complete a course of one tonic before starting another.

Chrysanthemum Parthenium Complex - Migraflor

Ingredients:
Cimicifuga racemosa (Black Cohosh Root)
Nepeta cataria (Catnip Herb)
Capsicum minimum (Cayenne Fruit)
Chrysanthemum parthenium (Feverfew Herb)

SUGGESTED USE: 5-10 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water, 3 times a day, between meals. Results require use of the formula for at least 2 weeks. Do not use if pregnant.

SUPPORTIVE: If you suffer from migraines on a regular basis, you may want to pay attention to migraine triggers such as food allergies, chocolate, strong cheese, strong smells, chemicals from cleaners, paint fumes, and strong perfumes. Read labels on processed foods for hidden substances known to trigger migraines (tartrazine, food colouring, msg, etc...). Drink plenty of water and rest in a cool, dark room. Please consult a natural health care practitioner if your symptoms worsen.

Crataegus Complex - Circulatory Tonic

Ingredients:
Crataegus spp. (Hawthorn Berries)
Leonurus cardiaca (Motherwort Herb)
Xanthoxylum americanum (Prickly Ash Bark)
Tilia americana (Linden Flowers)
Galium triflorum (Fragrant Bedstraw Herb)
Asarum canadense (Wild Ginger Rhizome)
Capsella bursa-pastoris (Shepherd's Purse Herb)

PROPERTIES: This formulation contains herbs that are traditionally used in the treatment of conditions affecting the circulatory system. It has an overall tonic and strengthening effect on both the blood vessels and the heart itself. In addition, the secondary nervine properties have a relaxing effect on the central nervous system that supports the overall action of the formulation by helping to reduce stress, an important factor in most conditions of the circulatory system. Circulatory Tonic will help to improve general circulation including that of the peripheral parts of the body such as the hands and feet. The strengthening effect on the blood vessels will also be beneficial for conditions such as varicose veins and hemorrhoids. This formulation also has a regulating effect on blood pressure and is useful in the treatment of both high and low blood pressure. It may also have a preventative effect on the formation of plaque in the arteries.

SUGGESTED USE: 15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water. This should be taken 2-4 times per day on an empty stomach for periods of 2-3 months. The best times are 15-30 minutes before meals and immediately before bed.

SUPPORTIVE: Conditions of the circulatory system are related to a number of important lifestyle factors. It is important to eat a diet that is low in saturated and rancid fats (avoid red meats, dairy products and deep-fried foods as much as possible) stimulants such as caffeine and nicotine (coffee, black and green tea, chocolate, cola, cigarettes) and processed sugar. Conversely, it is equally important that the diet be high in fresh fruits and vegetables and soluble fiber (oat bran, flax seeds, etc.). Stress is usually a factor and it is important to learn how to manage stress in your life. If stress is a major factor, the Nerve Tonic may be a helpful supporting formulation. Exercise not only strengthens the heart and improves circulation; it contributes to stress reduction as well. A healthy liver is necessary for the proper assimilation of fats and cholesterol. It is therefore important to reduce consumption of foods that are loaded with toxic chemicals (additives, preservatives, artificial colours, flavours and sweeteners, pesticides, herbicides, etc.) because these kinds of foods add to the toxic stress load on the liver. In addition, supplementation with anti-oxidants such as vitamins A, C and E, selenium and bioflavonoid complexes including quercetin, hesperidin, rutin and proanthocyanidin will help strengthen the blood vessels while protecting the heart, blood vessels and liver from the harmful effects of pollution and toxic chemicals. If liver function is compromised the Digestive Tonic may also be helpful.

While combining tonics with other herbs may not interfere with their effectiveness, it is best to complete a course of one tonic before starting another.

Echinacea Ligusticum Complex - Immunity Plus Tonic

Ingredients:
Echinacea angustifolia/purpurea (Echinacea Root)
Ligusticum porteri (Osha Root)
Calendula officinalis (Calendula Flowers)
Trifolium pratense (Red Clover Flowers)
Galium aparine (Cleavers Herb)
Borago officinalis (Borage Herb)

PROPERTIES: These herbs perform a variety of functions related to the immune system. In addition to directly stimulating all aspects of the immune response, many of them have secondary (some primary) lymphatic properties that reduce congestion and promote good lymphatic drainage. Congested lymphatics are a major contributor to poor immune function. This formulation also has anti-inflammatory activity, tonifies the mucus membranes and to some degree discourages the formation and growth of tumors. Borage supports the function of the adrenal glands and helps to reduce the immune-suppressive effects of stress. In addition to enhancing the immune response to stress, Immunity Plus Tonic helps reduce the overall impact of stress on this system due to its direct anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. It can be used as a tonic for preventative purposes, as well as in the treatment of acute infections of all types. This formulation may also be used as an adjunct in the treatment of chronic and autoimmune conditions.

SUGGESTED USE:
15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water, on an empty stomach. For preventative purposes and chronic conditions, take 2-4 times per day for 1-2 week periods followed by a break of at least one week. For acute infections, begin by taking 6-8 times per day and reduce the frequency of the dose as the symptoms improve.

SUPPORTIVE: Many dietary factors have a negative impact on immune function. They include consumption of chemical preservatives, colouring, flavouring and sweetening agents; non-organic foods (pesticides, herbicides and fungicides); red meats and dairy products; sugar, sweets and alcohol; caffeine and other stimulants; exposure to toxic chemicals, pollution and radiation; mucus-forming foods such as dairy and dairy imitation products, animal proteins, over-processed foods and gluten (contained in grains and grain products). Foods that have immune-enhancing properties include whole, minimally processed, organically grown foods with emphasis on fresh fruits and vegetables, garlic, onions and leeks. Plenty of exercise to the point of sweating is important, as it is necessary for good lymphatic drainage, circulation and respiratory function. It also helps reduce stress. Stress is usually a major contributing factor and some method of stress management such as relaxation exercises, yoga, meditation, tai chi or chi gong is highly recommended. The Nerve Tonic may be a helpful supportive formulation. Supplementation of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients can help reduce stress and promote immune function. They include the B complex, vitamin A and carotenes, vitamin C, bioflavonoid including quercetin, rutin, hesperidin and anthocyanidin, vitamin E, selenium, zinc, chromium, manganese and co-enzyme Q10. A probiotic bacterial supplement containing L. acidophilus and L. bifidus can be helpful to prevent infection, especially if antibiotics have been used within the last few months. For best results it should be used in powder form.

While combining tonics with other herbs may not interfere with their effectiveness, it is best to complete a course of one tonic before starting another.

Echinacea Goldenseal Mix

Ingredients:
Echinacea angustifolia/purpurea (Echinacea Root)
Hydrastis canadensis (Goldenseal root)

PROPERTIES: Echinacea is known to have an effect on the immune system and is a very good remedy to counter viral infections. Goldenseal shows a remarkable capacity to inhibit the growth of fungal and microbial pathogens. This combination is excellent for treating colds, flus, chronic ear, nose, and throat infections, bronchitis, laryngitis, chronic and acute sinusitis, and for viral, bacterial and fungal infections. Both Echinacea and Goldenseal have been proven to speed up the recovery time of cold and flu like illnesses.

SUGGESTED USE:
15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water, taken on an empty stomach 15-30 minutes before meals. It is strongly suggested that this combination is not used during pregnancy.

SUPPORTIVE:

Echinacea Root Mix

Ingredients:
Echinacea angustifolia (Echinacea angustifolia)
Echinacea purpurea (Echinacea purpurea)
Echinacea pallida (Echinacea pallida)

PROPERTIES: Traditionally used by the native tribes of the North American plains for a wide variety of conditions from snake bite to colds to cancer, this amazing herb has acquired considerable respect - especially in the last 10 years. During this period research has been accumulating which supports the conclusion that Echinacea stimulates and supports the functioning of the immune system. It is useful for both the prevention and treatment of many different types of infections and immune imbalances, particularly colds and flu. In addition, the long-term experience of herbalists has indicated that Echinacea is even more effective when synergistically combined with other herbs. Echinacea is a non-specific immune enhancer. Its effectiveness can therefore be enhanced by combining it with herbs which support the tissues which are most vulnerable to the particular condition being treated. The more specific the formula, the faster it works. Due to the close relationship between the functions of the lymphatic and immune systems, the effectiveness of Echinacea can be further enhanced, with or without the addition of more specific herbs, by combining it with lymphatic herbs.

SUGGESTED USE:
15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water, taken on an empty stomach 15-30 minutes before meals.

SUPPORTIVE: Fortunately, it is possible to reduce our exposure to and the impact of the many physical and psychological sources of stress which negatively effect the functions of the immune and lymphatic systems. Eating low on the food chain with an emphasis on natural organic fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes is important, as is getting sufficient exercise, rest and relaxation. In addition to the obvious benefits for the circulatory and respiratory systems, exercise also stimulates lymphatic drainage without which the immune system can not function efficiently. Foods such as dairy products which promote the production of excess mucus also have a tendency to clog up the lymphatic system and their intake is best reduced or avoided as much as possible.

Disciplines such as meditation, yoga, and tai chi can help one to better deal with stress and maintain a more positive attitude in life. Excessive worrying about our health, diet, etc., invariably does more harm than good. It is also advisable to avoid the use of synthetic substances in cosmetics, clothing, household cleaners, etc..

Many of these choices will also help to ensure that we are contributing less to environmental pollution and thereby reduce the impact of our lifestyle on the global 'immune system. Since it is impossible to avoid all environmental toxins and sources of stress in our lives, supplementation with good quality natural anti-oxidants and regular juice fasting once or twice per year may also be helpful. In addition, there are many herbs which have a long tradition of use to support the immune system.

Epilobium Alchemilla Complex - Male Tonic

Ingredients:
Epilobium parviflorum (Small-flowering Willow Herb)
Alchemilla arvensis (Parsley Piert Herb)
Astragalus membranaceus (Astragalus Root)
Calendula officinalis (Calendula Flowers)
Eupatorium maculatum (Joe-Pye Root)
Aralia nudicaulis (Wild Sarsaparilla Rhizome)
Solidago spp. (Goldenrod Herb)
Malva neglecta/Althaea officinalis (Common Mallow Flowering Tops)

PROPERTIES: The majority of these herbs have been found to be particularly useful for supporting the function and helping to correct imbalances of the prostate gland. This formulation is beneficial in the treatment of both acute and chronic inflammation and infections of the prostate, and as a general tonic for prostate function. The primary and secondary anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, immune enhancing and adaptogenic (general tonic/stress reducing) properties of a number of these herbs make the formula useful in the treatment of a wide variety of infections of the prostate while simultaneously stimulating the immune system and thereby supporting this process on a deeper level. Since the prostate gland lies along the urethra and these herbs have an affinity for this area of the body, this formulation is also helpful if there are related infections and inflammation along the urethra such as in the kidneys and/or bladder. However, if there is an infectious element to a condition that is more serious or is not responding fast enough to this formulation alone, then it should be used in combination with Immunity Plus Tonic for additional immune support.

SUGGESTED USE: 15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water on an empty stomach. For acute conditions take this formulation 4-6 times per day until the condition has cleared up. For chronic conditions take it 3-4 times per day for periods of 6-8 weeks followed by a 2-week break. The best times to take this formulation are 15-30 minutes before meals and immediately before bed.

SUPPORTIVE: To a large extent the health of the prostate gland is affected by the composition of the urine. If large quantities of acids and toxins are being excreted in the urine the health of this gland will be compromised. It is therefore important that the diet be low in foods that contribute to this such as red meats, dairy products, alcohol and foods that contain chemicals such as various additives, artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, preservatives, pesticides, herbicides and other toxins. Regular exercise with plenty of sweating is also important to help take some of the toxic stress load off of the kidneys. There are a number of supplements that may also be useful. Antioxidants, especially vitamin C and proanthocyanidins (grape seed and pine bark extracts) can help to reduce inflammation along the urinary tract. It is important in this case to use a mineral ascorbate form of vitamin C rather than ascorbic acid so as not to further increase the acidity of the urine. Probiotics such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus bifidus may be beneficial if there is an infectious component. Drinking cranberry juice and eating pumpkin seeds or supplementing with pumpkin seed oil or mineral zinc is also helpful.

While combining tonics with other herbs may not interfere with their effectiveness, it is best to complete a course of one tonic before starting another.

Gallium Trifolium Complex- Lymphatic Tonic

Ingredients:
Gallium aparine (Cleavers Herb)
Trifolium pratense (Red Clover Flowers)
Articum lappa (Burdock Seed)
Calendula officinalis (Calendula Flowers)
Echinacea purpurea/angustifolia/pallida (Echinacea Root Mix)
Malva neglecta/Althea officinalis (Common Flowering Mallow Tops)

PROPERTIES: These herbs are traditionally used to promote lymphatic drainage and stimulate those aspects of immune response that are related to the functioning of the lymphatic system. They help to reduce congestion of the lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels. The majority of these herbs also stimulate other aspects of immune response. They also tonify the urinary system, thereby supporting the detoxification of the lymph and blood via elimination in the urine. This formulation is particularly useful in the treatment of acute and chronic infectious and inflammatory conditions that are characterized by enlarged lymph nodes, general lymphatic congestion and internal toxicity. Examples include swollen glands, tonsillitis, chronic skin conditions, rheumatoid arthritis and gout. The formulation may also be useful in the treatment of some types of cancer, particularly lymphatic related varieties.

SUGGESTED USE: 15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water taken on an empty stomach, 15-30 minutes before meals or before bed. For preventative purposes and chronic conditions, take 2-4 times per day for 4-8 week periods followed by a 1-3 week break. For acute infections and/or inflammation, begin by taking 6-8 times per day and reduce the frequency of the dose as the symptoms improve.

SUPPORTIVE: The functioning of the lymphatic system is significantly affected by various dietary factors. Of particular importance is over-consumption of mucus-forming foods. These foods lead to an increase in general lymphatic congestion. They include dairy and dairy imitation products, animal proteins, over-processed foods and gluten (contained in grains and grain products). In addition, consumption of highly processed and/or denatured foods that contain various chemical additives also tends to lead to an increase in internal toxicity. This adds to the stress load on the lymphatic system. It is therefore best to avoid as much as possible consumption of chemical preservatives, colouring, flavouring and sweetening agents; non-organic foods (pesticides, herbicides and fungicides) red meats and dairy products; sugar, sweets and alcohol; exposure to toxic chemicals, pollution and radiation; rancid oils such as those found in deep-fried foods, nut butters and vegetable oils that are not protected from light, heat and oxygen. Foods that support the health of the lymphatic system include those that are whole, minimally processed and organically grown. Of particular importance are fresh fruits and vegetables. Plenty of exercise to the point of sweating (at least 20 minutes, three times per week) is important, as it is necessary for good lymphatic drainage. If lymphatic-related conditions are accompanied by a general immune imbalance, use of Immunity Plus Tonic may also be helpful. If there is significant internal toxicity, Detox Plus Tonic is recommended as well. Supplementation of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients may also be useful. Of particular importance are anti-oxidants. A probiotic bacterial supplement containing L. acidophilus and L. bifidus in powder form can be helpful, especially if antibiotics have been used within the last few months.

While combining tonics with other herbs may not interfere with their effectiveness, it is best to complete a course of one tonic before starting another.

Ginkgo Astragalus Complex - Mentality Plus Tonic

Ingredients:
Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgo Leaves)
Astragalus membranaceus (Astragalus Root)
Lavandula spp. (Lavender Flowers)
Artemisia vulgaris (Mugwort Herb)
Aralia racemosa (Spikenard Root)
Galium triflorum (Fragrant Bedstraw Herb)

PROPERTIES: This formulation consists of herbs, which work on the nervous, endocrine and circulatory systems. The overall effect is one, which is uplifting and subtly euphoric, while at the same time enhancing concentration, mental clarity and both short and long term memory. This result is achieved by a number of mutually synergistic actions. A number of these herbs are nerve tonics and mood enhancers. This aspect of the formulation can be very helpful in cases of mild depression. There is also a significant adaptogenic component that supports the endocrine system, particularly the adrenal glands. This promotes an increase in resistance to stress and an improvement in overall energy level. Finally, several of these herbs are also known to strengthen the blood vessels resulting in a general improvement in blood circulation, especially to the brain and adrenals. This formulation works as a tonic. It can be helpful in conditions characterized by anxiety, depression, poor memory and concentration, and general lethargy and malaise.

SUGGESTED USE: 15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water on an empty stomach. The best times are 15-30 minutes before meals. This formulation should be taken 2-4 times per day or periods of 6-8 weeks followed by a 1-2 week break.

SUPPORTIVE: Poor memory and concentration, negative moods and fatigue can be related to a number of different factors. Poor circulation is often implicated. In this case it is important to get sufficient exercise and reduce consumption of foods that are high in fats and various chemicals. Smoking is a definite liability. Stress is also often an important factor. Avoidance of excessively stressful situations, learning how to deal with stress more efficiently, and getting sufficient rest and relaxation are necessary in these situations. It is also important to reduce consumption of sugar and stimulants such as caffeine. Another element that is not often considered has to do with high levels of toxicity in the blood and tissues. Here, exercise (with plenty of sweating) and reducing consumption and exposure to toxic chemicals are an issue again. The possibility of compromised digestive, eliminative and liver function should also be considered. Also related to digestive and liver function, as well as general immune function, is the presence of food allergies or sensitivities. These can also be related to poor moods and low energy level. Excessive consumption of alcohol adds to the level of internal toxicity, stresses out the liver, pancreas and adrenals and has a depressant effect on the nervous system. Supplementation with antioxidant (vitamins A, C and E, selenium and bioflavonoids) may also be helpful because they help improve circulation and protect the body tissues from the harmful effects of toxins. Symptoms of this nature can also be related to emotional and psychological issues. Some form of counseling may also be in order.

While combining tonics with other herbs may not interfere with their effectiveness, it is best to complete a course of one tonic before starting another.

Grindelia Inula Complex - Bronkaflor

Ingredients:
Capsicum minimum (Cayenne Fruit)
Tussilago farfara (Colt's Foot)
Inula helenium (Elecampane Root)
Grindelia robusta, Grindelia squarrosa (Gumweed Herb)
Equisetum arvense (Horsetail Herb)
Hyssopus officinalis (Hyssop Herb)
Verbascum densiflorum (Mullein Herb)

PROPERTIES: Grindelia Inula Complex treats the lungs and respiratory tract, and improves immune function (in relation to acute and chronic coughs and respiratory imbalances). Cayenne is a circulatory stimulant that strengthens the heart, capillaries and nerves. It also aids in toxin removal. Colt's Foot treats cough, bronchitis, and inflammation of mouth and pharynx. It is a soothing expectorant with antispasmodic properties. Elecampane is a traditional folk remedy used for treating bronchitis, whooping cough, and bronchial catarrh. Gumweed treats catarrhs of the upper respiratory tract, including cough and bronchitis. Horsetail is used in folk medicine to treat tuberculosis and pulmonary hemorrhages. Hyssop is a traditional herb used for conditions of the respiratory tract, colds, chest and lung ailments. Mullein treats cough & bronchitis, alleviates irritation and provides expectorant action.

SUGGESTED USE: 15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water, taken on an empty stomach 15-30 minutes before meals.

SUPPORTIVE: If you are suffering from bronchial ailments, your best bet is to eliminate mucus forming foods from your diet, such as dairy products, fried foods, wheat, yeast, and sugar. Drink lots of clean non-chlorinated water, do some deep breathing exercise and get some fresh air. Seek professional help if your symptoms worsen.

Juglans Echinacea Complex - Detox Plus Tonic

Ingredients:
Echinacea angustifolia/purpurea (Echinacea Root)
Calendula officinalis (Calendula Flowers)
Juglans nigra (Black Walnut Hulls)
Rumex crispus (Yellow Dock Root)
Arctium lappa (Burdock Root)
Taraxacum officinale radix (Dandelion Root)
Eupatorium perfoliatum (Boneset Herb)
Scrophularia nodosa/marilandica (Figwort Herb)

PROPERTIES: This formulation is designed to aid the detoxification and elimination processes. Many of these herbs are traditionally known as depuratives or "blood purifiers." They facilitate detoxification via a number of important physiological mechanisms including removal of toxins from the body tissues, detoxification by the liver, and elimination of toxins through the colon, urinary tract, and skin. A number of these herbs also provide useful secondary support to the detoxification processes by stimulating the immune response and discouraging the proliferation of microorganisms and parasites. This formulation is an effective aid in the treatment of any condition that is related to, or aggravated by, some level of internal toxicity. This includes: chronic skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis; rheumatic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and gout; inflammatory bowel conditions such as colitis; and auto-immune conditions such as allergies.

SUGGESTED USE: 5-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water on an empty stomach. This tincture should be taken 2-4 times per day, 15-30 minutes before meals and/or before bed for periods of 6-8 weeks followed by a 1-2 week break. In the case of long-term chronic conditions where there is considerable toxicity, it is best to start with a dose of 5-10 drops and build up slowly until a maximum dose (30 drops) is reached. It should be noted that in the early stages of detoxification a slight aggravation of the symptoms might occur.

SUPPORTIVE: In the 20th century, it is unlikely that anyone is free of some significant level of internal toxicity. In general, toxins come from three major sources: (1) the environment, (2) lifestyle, and (3) those that are internally generated, primarily in response to stress. Environmental toxins are difficult to avoid. Anyone with a serious toxicity related health problem should avoid living and working in highly polluted environments. Supplementation with anti-oxidant vitamins may be helpful when exposure to some environmental pollutants is unavoidable. The most important lifestyle factor is diet. It is best to avoid heavily processed foods that contain chemical additives and toxic residues from pesticides, herbicides and related substances. A diet that will contribute the least to toxicity (and the most to detoxification) is one that emphasizes certified organically grown fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Of particular importance are raw fruits and dark green leafy vegetables. Probiotic bacterial supplements containing L. acidophilus and L. bifidus will help to prevent absorption of toxicity through the bowel. For best results they should be used in powder form. Other factors that should be avoided as much as possible are the use of both therapeutic and recreational drugs. A regular exercise program is advisable both as an aid to stress management and as a means of facilitating the elimination of toxins through the skin (via sweating).

While combining tonics with other herbs may not interfere with their effectiveness, it is best to complete a course of one tonic before starting another.

Mitchella Alchemilla Complex - Female Tonic

Ingredients:
Mitchella repens (Squawvine Herb - Partridgeberry)
Alchemilla vulgaris (Lady's Mantle Herb)
Rubus sp. (Raspberry Leaves)
Leonurus cardiaca (Motherwort Herb)
Humulus lupulus (Hops Flowers)
Angelica archangelica (Angelica Root)
Caulophyllum thalictroides (Blue Cohosh Rhizome)
Asarum canadense (Wild Ginger Rhizome)

PROPERTIES: Female Tonic is what is traditionally known as an emmenagogue, a general tonic for the female reproductive system. It helps to normalize the menstrual cycle by balancing the female reproductive hormones and strengthening the ovaries and the uterus. This formulation can be used as an aid in the treatment of all manner of imbalances of the female reproductive system. It will help regulate the timing of the menstrual cycle while promoting normal blood flow. The combination of hormone-regulating herbs with herbs that are nervine relaxants and/or anti-spasmodics also makes Female Tonic beneficial for cramping as well as stress-related or emotional symptoms associated with PMS and menopause. This formulation is also helpful for the treatment of other menopause-related symptoms such as hot flashes. In addition, it will help to strengthen the uterus and uterine contractions in cases of prolonged labour. Please note, however, that Female Tonic should not be taken during the first two trimesters of pregnancy.

SUGGESTED USE: 15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water, 2-4 times per day, 15-30 minutes before meals and immediately before bed. For conditions associated with the menstrual cycle, begin taking this formulation one week before the beginning of your period and continue taking until 2-3 days after bleeding has stopped. For conditions associated with menopause take it for 2-week periods followed by a 2-week break. In both cases the formulation will usually need to be taken over a period of a number of months. In cases of more intense acute symptoms, the number of doses can be temporarily increased up to 4-6 times per day.

SUPPORTIVE: Imbalances of the female reproductive system can be related to a number of different factors (and are usually related to more than one of them). Dietary factors include over-consumption of sugar, stimulants such as caffeine, and foods containing cholesterol, saturated fats and rancid oils. Be wary of foods and drinks stored in plastic containers as these often leach estrogen-like compounds. Poor liver function can lead to imbalances of cholesterol metabolism, which will disturb hormone levels. Stress and the emotional state are also major factors. Depression, poor self-image and difficulty in dealing with sexual issues can also contribute. The Nerve Tonic may also be helpful in cases where stress and emotional factors are an issue. Sufficient exercise is important to help strengthen the abdominal muscles, including the uterine muscle, as well as to help reduce stress and detoxify the system. One of the worst contributing factors to imbalances of the female reproductive system is use of birth control pills. No matter how "safe" some of the newer versions of these drugs are advertised to be, they are extremely detrimental to the normal functioning of the female reproductive system in both pre- and post-menopausal women.

While combining tonics with other herbs may not interfere with their effectiveness, it is best to complete a course of one tonic before starting another.

Siberian Ginseng Formula

Ingredients:
Eleutherococcus senticosus (Siberian Ginseng root)
Astragalus membranaceus (Astragalus root)
Glycyrrhiza glabra (Licorice root)
Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola herb)

PROPERTIES: This is a superior adrenal tonic in combination with a nutritive stimulant. It helps body systems to absorb nutrients from food. It gives energy without draining the adrenal system. Gotu kola has stimulant properties, and helps with endurance and stamina. This is one of our more popular formulas and you can readily notice the extra energy and vitality once it has entered the bloodstream. This is a good combination for students studying for exams! It is also good for sports and strenuous activity. A virtuous pick-me-up and stimulant without any side-effects - this combination could be used instead of coffee. Too much may be too stimulating for the system. (see Dr. Scheer's powerline). This is an improved version of the formula that was used in the Russian space program, helping to improve the endurance and stress of being in space.

SUGGESTED USE: 15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water, taken on an empty stomach 15-30 minutes before meals.

SUPPORTIVE: To increase energy and stamina, take part in deep yogic breathing, and movement exercises such as tai chi or yoga.

Taraxacum Achillea Complex - Digestive Tonic

Ingredients:
Taraxacum officinale radix (Dandelion Root)
Achillea millefolium (Yarrow Herb)
Calendula officinalis (Calendula Flowers)
Agrimonia spp. (Agrimony Herb)
Asarum canadense (Wild Ginger Rhizome)
Rumex crispus (Yellow Dock Root)
Arctium lappa (Burdock Root)
Monarda fistulosa (Wild Bergamot Herb)
Chamaemelum nobile (Roman Chamomile Flowers)
Melissa officinalis (Melissa Herb)
Nepeta cataria (Catnip Herb)

PROPERTIES: These herbs have traditionally been used as an aid in the treatment of a wide variety of digestive disturbances. The formulation works on two levels. The majority of the herbs are digestive tonics that stimulate the secretion of enzymes and digestive juices by the stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liver and gall bladder. In addition, aromatic nervine herbs stimulate the digestive process while calming the sympathetic nervous system. This is very important because all digestive disturbances are at least partially related to stress. The Digestive Tonic is helpful for all manner of symptoms related to indigestion including upset stomach, nausea, gas, bloating, etc. It is also useful for liver and gall bladder congestion and as a supportive aid in the treatment of food allergies where there is a poor digestion component. This formulation can also be used as an appetite stimulant.

SUGGESTED USE: 15-30 drops taken in 1-2 ounces of pure water, 15-30 minutes before meals.

SUPPORTIVE: For all digestive disturbances, a few dietary rules are important to follow. It is best not to overeat, to avoid snacking between meals on anything except fresh fruit, and not to eat anything between dinner and breakfast. Allow at least one hour after waking before eating breakfast whenever possible. Increase consumption of fruit, vegetables and whole grains and decrease consumption of fatty or oily foods including red meats, dairy products, fried foods, nuts and nut butters. Relax for a few minutes before eating, focus on your food, chew it well and avoid distractions such as reading, watching TV, thinking about stressful situations and excessive conversation as much as possible while eating. Drinking sufficient water is important, but don't drink too much with your meals. Digestive enzymes can be helpful for symptomatic relief; however, the goal is to stimulate the digestive system to produce its own enzymes, not to become dependent on an external source of enzymes. The herbs should be used until the body no longer requires enzyme supplementation. Broad-spectrum plant enzymes are the best. Exercise strengthens the muscles of the digestive tract and helps reduce stress. If stress is a major contributing factor, some method of stress management such as relaxation exercises, yoga, meditation, tai chi or chi gong is highly recommended. In this case the Nerve Tonic may be a helpful supportive formulation. A probiotic bacterial supplement containing L. acidophilus and L. bifidus can be helpful, especially if the digestive disturbance is accompanied by some diarrhea, constipation or if antibiotics have been used within the last few months.

Formulas are best used individually. While combining tonics with other herbs may not interfere with their effectiveness, it is best to complete a course of one tonic before starting another.

General supportive: One of the first steps to good health is to cut out processed food, soft drinks, get plenty of rest and fresh air, exercise, stretch, walk, or do some yogic breathing. Eat 3-5 small meals a day. You should not eat after 6pm, or drink tea or coffee after mid-day (1 to 2 cups a day is sufficient, but caffeine as a whole should be eliminated from the diet). Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day and fresh fruit and vegetable juices. The idea is to put as little stress on your body as possible so your body can focus on making you well. Eat organic food. These suggestions may not have an immediate effect on your body, but over time you will notice that you have more energy and are feeling generally healthier. We advise seeking the advice of a naturopathic practitioner in your area. Get rid of chemicals in the home, and do not wear strong perfumes. Always read labels on processed foods if you must eat them (watch for common food additives that are known to be problematic - msg, aspartame, tartrazine - and avoid them). Think about adopting a macrobiotic diet or pure vegetarian diet.
