Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome
Adaptogen
- Adrenal Support
Adaptogen
is a term coined by Russian researchers to describe a class of
herbs which help the body adapt to the unrelenting stress of modern
existence. These are thought to achieve their effect primarily
by supporting the adrenal glands, which bear the brunt of the
ill effects of continued stress. Our Adaptogen
formula is conceived as a foundation therapy for virtually all
endocrine and auto-immune disorders, as stress plays a well-recognized
role in the genesis of these conditions.
Codonopsis
is considered a specific in Chinese medicine for fatigue, weakness,
loss of appetite, and vertigo. Western research has demonstrated
its strong anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and
analgesic capabilities. Devil's Club (Oplopanax
horridum) is an adaptogen with notable blood sugar balancing
properties which is particularly useful in the treatment of those
whose energy levels vary considerably throughout the day. Astragalus
is a classic Chinese energy tonic with considerable immune-enhancing
properties [Chevallier]. Polygonium is a prime
rejuvenating herb in Chinese medicine used to treat dizziness,
weakness and numbness and to support healthy function of the liver
and kidneys. The anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic herb Wild
Yam (Dioscorea villosa) contains the steroid
precursor diosgenin [Chevallier]. Siberian Ginseng
(Eleutherococcus senticosus) is specific for debility,
exhaustion and depression, and is indicated whenever the body
is subject to undue stress, whether physical or mental [Hoffman].
The amazing Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)
is the best rejuvenative herb in Indian Ayurvedic medicine.
Among its many indications are debility, exhaustion, emaciation,
memory loss, muscle weakness, overwork and insomnia. Its name
means "smell of a horse," as its use is said to impart
the strength of that animal.

DiabetiCare
- For high blood sugar
DiabetiCare
can be extremely helpful in the treatment of problems involving
blood sugar metabolism, especially Type II Diabetes, and including
Hyperinsulinemia / Syndrome X, and Hyperinsulinemia associated
with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Blood sugars can start coming
down within about 2 weeks but some people don't notice much of
a change for 6 weeks. About 88% of patients have much improved
blood sugars within 2-3 months. However, It may also be helpful
as a preventative in patients who have a family history of adult-onset
diabetes.
Both full-blown diabetes
and erratic blood glucose levels are an increasingly common cause
of suffering for many. In DiabetiCare are selected
prime herbs from east and west which combine synergistically to
bring blood sugar levels into the desired range. The powdered
seeds of Jambul (Syzygium cumini), are
used in India to treat diabetes and concomitant urinary frequency
[Chevallier]. Gymnema sylvestre is an Indian
folk favorite in the treatment of diabetes that has been gaining
increasing visibility in the west. Studies indicate that it boosts
insulin production, and may actually increase the number of islet
cells in the pancreas. Its Indian name, gurmar, literally translates
as "sugar destroying," for its ability to counter sugar
cravings as well as reduce sugar in the body [Frawley]. Nopal
opuntia, or Prickly Pear,
is a cactus native to Mexico and the Southwest which is high in
flavonoids, vitamin C, fiber and amino acids. It has been shown
to decrease blood sugar and cholesterol while curbing the appetite.
The root of the common Dandelion (Taraxacum
officinale) is a good addition to many herbal combinations,
as it aids the liver in its processing and metabolic functions
. It also rich in the compound inulin which has been shown to
reduce hyperglycemic states. Similarly, Milk Thistle,
(Silybum marianum) supports the liver, the main organ
in glucose storage and metabolism. Recent research indicates that
its secretion of the compounds HISS (Hepatic
Insulin Sensitizing Substrate) and nitric oxide are powerful
aids in the stabilization of blood glucose and prevention of secondary
effects. An Italian study found that diabetics with cirrhosis
of the liver were able to significantly decrease blood sugar and
the need for insulin by taking Milk Thistle.
Devil's Club (Oplopanax horridum) is
a favorite of many naturopaths and Native American herbalists
of the Pacific Northwest which adds adrenal support to the mixture,
and appears to balance blood sugar levels through its influence
there and on the pancreas. DiabetiCare is unique
in that it exerts blood sugar control holistically through support
of the pancreas, liver and adrenals, the combined organs of blood
sugar regulation.
As this formula naturally increases endogenous antioxidants such
as glutathione and superoxide dismutase (SOD), it can be of great
benefit in treating retinopthy, neuropathy, and nephropathy, the
common secondary diabetic complications associated with free radical
damage.

FibroCare
- For Fibromyalgia
The combination of W-T3
therapy and FibroCare appears to correct fibromyalgia
(including muscle aches, fatigue, brain fog, and insomnia) in
nearly all patients with full-blown fibromyalgia. When we say
"correct fibromyalgia", we mean that the patients no
longer meet the definition of fibromyalgia. Although this combination
can't work for everyone, because no treatment can, in several
dozens of patients we haven't seen it fail yet.
Patients can sometimes start to relapse
after months of being off the treatment, or they might have mild
flare-ups from time to time. Nevertheless, the fibromyalgia can
usually be corrected to the point that it doesn't come right back
once the treatment has been discontinued. And the symptoms can
usually be cleared up again easily with a couple of follow-up
bottles of WTS Medicines (like Healthy
Foundation, ThyroCare, and/or FibroCare).
FibroCare can also
be helpful in arthritis, sciatica, neuralgias, migraine, insomnia,
depression, anxiety and weepiness, uterine spasms, PMS and menopause.
FibroCare combines
the best herbs for relief of pain and spasm with the proven aids
in FMS care, magnesium and malic acid. The wise physician may
soon find that this same program benefits patients suffering from
any number of musculo-skeletal disorders, including arthritis,
sciatica and other neuralgias. This versatile product has also
been of use in the treatment of migraine. The Journal
of Nutritional Medicine published a study demonstrating
the efficacy of combined magnesium and malic acid therapy in decreasing
tender point pain in the treatment of FMS [Bland 1995]. The authors
theorized that the unanimous success of the combination can be
ascribed to a decrease in muscle lactic acid due to increased
energy production. Jamaican Dogwood (Piscidea
erythrina) is used to treat many types of pain, including
nerve and muscle pain and spasm. Additionally, its mild sedative
properties promote better sleep, a key in the treatment of FMS
[Greive 1998]. Boneset (Eupatorium perfolatum)
has been shown to possess immune stimulating properties [Foster
and Duke 1990] in addition to its traditional use as a tonic for
the treatment of rheumatic and muscular pain. The wonderfully
versatile herb Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa)
has not only anti-rheumatic and anti-spasmodic properties, but
is also of use in treating depression, anxiety and weepiness,
often concomitants in the complaints of FMS. It has hormone balancing
properties which make it of use in the treatment of dysmenorrhea,
uterine spasms, PMS and menopause [Sherman 1993].

Healthy Foundation
Healthy Foundation
has been designed with the whole body in mind. It is designed
to help different organ systems of the body to work well together
to enhance the general health of the body. As such, it can be
used as a foundation in the treatment of any chronic disorder,
or for anyone who would like to attain optimum health and energy.
This tonic has shown clinical success in treating disorders as
varied as fatigue, depression, chemical sensitivities and ADHD.
Good health begins with
good digestion and absorption of nutrients. For digestive support,
Healthy Foundation provides two outstanding carminatives,
peppermint (Mentha piperita) and fennel (Foeniculum
vulgare). The term carminatives describes a class of herbs
which bring a pleasing warmth to the digestion by increasing gastric
circulation and peristalsic contractions while relaxing the system.
Peppermint is a
traditional carminative employed in the treatment of colic, dyspepsia,
flatulence, nausea and intestinal spasms. It is calming, which
helps to promote sleep, and has demonstrated efficacy in treating
irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Fennel shares the above properties,
with the additional benefit of treating bacterial overgrowth or
dysbiosis.
From digestive support this tonic
proceeds to immune and endocrine support with the addition of
Astragalus (Astragalus membranosum) and
Wild Sarsaparilla (Aralia nudicalis).
Astragalus is a prime immune and energy tonic
in Chinese medicine, and is valued in that system for its ability
to enhance the medicinal properties of other herbs in a given
formula. Wild Sarsaparilla is a tonic in the
treatment of debility, fatigue, rheumatism and digestive weakness
[Foster and Duke], and is considered a balancing agent for endocrine
metabolism.
No general tonic could be complete
without supporting the main organism of metabolism and detoxification,
the liver. For this, Healthy Foundation includes
Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum).
As mental clarity is often impaired
in FMS and other chronic conditions, Healthy Foundation
includes the flavonoid and antioxidant-rich herb Ginkgo
biloba. Research indicates that Ginkgo
can improve brain circulation, memory and concentration while
improving circulation to the extremities and brain.
Depression and a negative outlook
can prolong and intensify the suffering of chronic conditions.
Healthy Foundation employs St. John's
Wort (Hypericum perforatum) to increase serotonin,
and thereby buoyancy, in the depressed patient. This versatile
herb also possesses antioxidant properties, making it useful in
limiting the secondary damage from free radicals which accompanies
many degenerative conditions.

HypoglycemiCare
- For low blood sugar
HypoglycemiCare
is especially helpful in correcting the symptoms of hypoglycemia,
or low blood sugar. Hypoglycemia refers to symptoms that come
when blood sugar levels drop too low, and that go away when blood
sugar levels are returned to normal (with eating).
HypoglycemiCare
holistically addresses all of the organs involved in blood sugar
balance (including the adrenals, liver, and pancreas), but shifts
the emphasis toward adrenal support. Devil's Club
(Oplopanax horridum) is an adrenal tonic which has demonstrated
a specific positive effect in achieving blood sugar balance [Drum].
Jambul (Syzygium cumini) has been traditionally
used in India to control blood sugar levels. While largely used
as an anti-spasmodic in the west, Wild Yam (Dioscorea
villosa) is used in Chinese medicine to "brighten the
eyes" and as a tonic. It also contains diosgenin, a precursor
for cortisol, a key constituent in blood sugar balance [Buhner].
Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) prolongs
the half life of cortisol, thereby helping maintain consistency
of blood glucose levels, and has repeatedly demonstrated anti-stress
and fatigue properties [Buhner]. Siberian Ginseng
(Eleutherococcus senticosus) has been in
use in China for over 2000 years in the treatment of fatigue,
weakness, depression, forgetfulness, and insomnia. It is known
in the west for its adrenal and liver tonic properties [Buhner].
Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) is well known
as the western herb for liver support par excellence [Buhner]

Mic's Oil
- For muscle and joint
aches, spasms
Regular use of this
medicated massage oil can bring tremendous relief for a mix of
musculo-skeletal and nerve complaints. Topical application of
St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
oil has earned a reputation for success in treating all manner
of muscle pain, spasms, cramps and stiffness. Although known more
currently for its use in homeopathy, Arnica (Arnica
montana) has historically been used in topical form for arthritic
and neuralgic pains as well as muscular pains from overuse. A
number of studies have confirmed that the volatile oils in Arnica
stimulate local vasodilation, and the release of anti-inflammatory
substances into the blood stream. Similarly. Partridge
Berry (Mitchella repens) is counted among the
best remedies for relief of rheumatic and neuralgic pains as well
as muscle spasms. Wintergreen (Gaultheria
procumbens) is commonly found in sports creams and other
topical pain relievers. Its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties
are attributed to its methyl salicylate content. It has been proven
in long use as anti-spasmodic as well. Whether your patient complains
of pain from trauma, arthritis, overuse, neuralgia or unknown
cause, you can think of Mic's Oil to bring relief.
It's even helpful for hemorrhoids.
MigraCare
- For headaches, especially
migraines
MigraCare
can often reduce the number of migraines from one a day to one
a month, or none a month. Most patients notice some response within
a few weeks. Patients who have migraines once a day will hopefully,
within a week or two, notice that the frequency, duration, an
intensity diminishes to having one migraine every six to eight
weeks. If patients don't notice any improvement after taking MigraCare
for 2 months, then it probably won't help them. MigraCare
is often helpful with other types of headaches as well, not just
migraines. MigraCare doesn't seem to work as
well with headaches due to Lyme disease.
The inspiration for
MigraCare grew out of the repeated clinical success
observed in the treatment and prevention of migraine headache
with the regular use of FibroCare. That success
has been improved upon with the addition of the well-known migraine-preventive
herb Feverfew (Tanacetum partheneum).
Jamaican Dogwood (Piscidea erythrina)
has proven effective in general pain relief, and the versatile
Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa),
in addition to its antispasmodic and antirheumatic properties,
possesses the ability to balance the female hormonal system. This
remarkable plant offers relief in headache, depression, anxiety,
dysmenorrhea, PMS and menopause.

ThyroCalm
- For Hyperthyroidism
ThyroCalm
is a unique formula aimed at calming an overactive thyroid gland,
or hyperthyroidism. The most common form of hyperthyroidism is
Graves' disease. Graves' disease is an autoimmune condition wherein
the body makes antibodies against receptors that are normally
responsible for stimulating the thyroid gland to produce adequate
amounts of thyroid hormone. The antibodies stimulate the thyroid
gland to make too much thyroid hormone which can cause palpitations,
rapid heart rate, sweating, jitteriness, chest pain, trouble breathing,
anxiety, fever, and other complaints.
This formula is designed
to quell the overactive thyroid and to provide support for the
beleaguered adrenal glands, which always suffer when thyroid function
is altered. Bugleweed (Lycopus virginicus)
has been the subject of modern research which appears to confirm
its long history of folk use in treating thyroid conditions, as
it has been shown to reduce thyroid hormone levels in an animal
model [Duke]. It is widely combined in Europe with Lemon
Balm (Mellisa officinalis), which has experimentally
demonstrated the ability to decrease circulating and pituitary
TSH levels in injectable form [Duke]. Siberian Ginseng
(Eleutherococcus senticosus) is added to protect and
support the adrenals. Several studies have confirmed the ability
of Lithospermum to decrease both TSH and thyroid
hormone levels.

ThyroCare
ThyroCare
can be very helpful in Fatigue, Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome, Hypothyroidism,
and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. In fact, in conjunction with W-T3
therapy these conditions can often be corrected to the point that
patients no longer need treatment. Research has also shown that
one of the herbs in ThyroCare (Guggul) can lower
elevated cholesterol levels in the blood.
ThyroCare
is designed to provide adjunctive support for the hypothyroid
patient, and may be of assistance no matter what the etiology
of the condition. Guggul (Commiphora mukul)
is considered a rejuvenative and stimulant in Ayurvedic medicine
[Tirtha]. Iris versicolor, or Blue Flag,
has traditionally been used in the west in thyroid conditions,
as it stimulates glandular secretion and removal of wastes through
the lymphatic system [Felter]. Fucus, or bladderwrack
(kelp), has been a folk remedy for thyroid problems for thousands
of years, and it appears to provide the organ with the nutrition
and substrates it requires [Drum]. It was shown in one study to
increase weight loss and metabolic rate [Chevallier].
